چکیده
The friction properties of ackee apple (Blighia sapida) seeds at an 11.9, 17, 22, 27, and 32% (w.b.) seed moisture were determined, which are vital for designing their processing techniques equipment to replace the present manual methods. grows in many West African countries, especially Nigeria. harvested Lanlate, Oyo State, Nigeria, where trees predominant. Standard experimental methods adopted determine properties. data analysed using ANOVA least significant difference (LSD) P ≤ 0.05. As increased, static coefficient on glass (27.6–36.40), aluminium (27.0–30.2), polyvinyl chloride (PVC; 27.9–32.8) surfaces normal stress 200 g (8.73–8.93 g×cm–2), 300 (11.65–11.79 g×cm–2) 400 (14.37–14.65) loads increased significantly linearly. shear linearly decreased a load (1.62–1.25 but was non-significant loads. internal (0.744–0.588) implying that wet flow more easily than dry ones, should be considered conveyors. relationships between seeds' expressed with regression models. Variation in the chemical parameters of oil extracted from arils of Blighia sapida (ackee) with the degree of fruit ripeness
The chemical properties of oil from arils of both ripe and unripe ackee (Blighia sapida) were evaluated with a view to investigating the variations in their domestic and industrial applications. The chemical analyses of ripe and unripe aril oils respectively in different locations showed the percentage yield of oil from 54.91±2.75 to 78.25±3.91; 37.78±1.51 to 54.61 ± 2.18, iodine values of 90.0...
متن کاملAssessment and profiling of the fatty acids in two ackee fruit (Blighia sapida Köenig) varieties during different ripening stages.
BACKGROUND The ripening of fruits is characterized by physical, chemical and biochemical compositional changes such as color, sugars and phenolic compounds. Ackee fruit is famous in Jamaica and the Caribbean. This study aimed to assess the variation of fatty acids in two varieties (cheese and butter) ackee (Blighia sapida) fruits during five different ripening stages. RESULTS The total fatty ...
متن کاملUses, traditional management, perception of variation and preferences in ackee (Blighia sapida K.D. Koenig) fruit traits in Benin: implications for domestication and conservation
BACKGROUND Blighia sapida is a woody perennial multipurpose fruit tree species native to the Guinean forests of West Africa. The fleshy arils of the ripened fruits are edible. Seeds and capsules of the fruits are used for soap-making and all parts of the tree have medicinal properties. Although so far overlooked by researchers in the region, the tree is highly valued by farmers and is an import...
متن کاملChanges in Lipid Profile of Aqueous and Ethanolic Extract of Blighia sapida in Rats
Aqueous and ethanolic leaf extracts of Blighia sapida was assessed for some lipid profile parameters in normal albino rats. Daily administration of the extracts (50 and 100 mg/kg body weight) for 21days showed that the extract significantly (p<0.05) reduced the levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL-cholesterol in all the treated groups w hen compared with the control. While signifi...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of the Nutrient Composition of Tree-Ripened versus Rack-Ripened Ackees (Blighia sapida)
Ackee canners often harvest mature fruits that are placed on sun racks to complete ripening (indicated by podopening). It is unknown whether the nutrient composition of rack-ripened fruits differs from those completely ripened on trees. This study compares proximate, mineral and fatty acid composition of raw, mature arils of tree-ripened and rackripened fruits. Proximate and mineral composition...
